Pot Will Be Legal, and Soon

This November, three states will vote on whether to legalize marijuana for old-fashioned “getting-high purposes.” Colorado is the best bet—one poll has the public behind the bill by a 61-27 margin—but Oregon and/or Washington might as well, and even if all of them chicken out, Julian Brookes of Rolling Stone thinks the end of marijuana prohibition is nigh. “The status quo, people are starting to notice, is a total disaster.”

We can only hope.

Truth In Trials Act, Medical Marijuana Protection Bill, Proposed By Bipartisan Group Of Lawmakers

A bipartisan group of House lawmakers introduced a bill this week designed to create enhanced legal protections for valid medical marijuana patients prosecuted due to conflicting state and federal laws regarding the legality of the substance.

Under the Truth In Trials Act, sponsored by California Democratic Rep. Sam Farr and co-sponsored by other representatives such as Barney Frank (D-Mass.) and Ron Paul (R-Texas), state-licensed medical marijuana users would be given the right to provide an “affirmative defense” in the case of a federal prosecution. This effectively allows them to prove that their actions, while illegal at the federal level, were in fact protected under state law.

Medical marijuana brings relief for sick kids in Michigan but the treatment is controversial

Rebecca Brown says she tried every prescription drug she could find to control the frequent seizures her son suffered because of a severe form of epilepsy.

When nothing worked consistently, and the drugs and special diet caused kidney stones and pancreas problems as side effects, the Oakland County woman turned to medical marijuana.

Now, Cooper Brown, 14, is one of 44 Michigan residents younger than 18 with a medical marijuana card. His mom says his seizures have dropped off dramatically since he started using it early this year.

But the treatment is controversial. Marijuana — medical or otherwise — is illegal at the federal level and some doctors say it shouldn’t be used by adults, let alone children. A lack of clinical studies means there is uncertainty about its effects on developing brains and nervous systems.

Though still in middle school, Cooper is not the youngest child on the state’s medical marijuana registry. A 7-year-old, two 9-year-olds, an 11-year-old, and a 13-year-old can also legally possess and consume medical pot in Michigan.

Michigan’s medical marijuana law is no protection for drivers, appellate court says

Users of medical marijuana cannot legally drive if they have any amount of the drug in their systems, the state Court of Appeals said in a ruling issued this morning.

The appellate court said the state’s “zero tolerance” law, which prevents motorists from operating a vehicle with any amount of a Schedule 1 controlled substance in their body, still applies for drivers who legally use medical marijuana.

The ruling came in a Grand Traverse County case in which Prosecutor Alan Schneider charged Rodney Koon with driving under the influence.

Pot Legalization Could Save U.S. $13.7 Billion Per Year, 300 Economists Say

Your plans to celebrate 4/20 this Friday could actually make the government some money, if only such activities were legal. That’s according to a bunch of economists, and some prominent ones too.

More than 300 economists, including three nobel laureates, have signed a petition calling attention to the findings of a paper by Harvard economist Jeffrey Miron, which suggests that if the government legalized marijuana it would save $7.7 billion annually by not having to enforce the current prohibition on the drug. The report added that legalization would save an additional $6 billion per year if the government taxed marijuana at rates similar to alcohol and tobacco.

That’s as much as $13.7 billion per year, but it’s still minimal when compared to the federal deficit, which hit $1.5 trillion last year, according to the Congressional Budget Office.

NUMBERS!

#OpCannabis

Hello Citizens of the World! We are Anonymous.

Many of you know that April 20th is a day marked by the consumption of Marijuana by people of all walks of life, all over the globe. What you may not know is the facts when it comes to Cannabis use.

It is common knowledge that this substance is significantly less harmful than alcohol or nicotine, two drugs widely deemed acceptable by society. (http://yfrog.com/nvjrgg)

Regardless of this, the U.S. Government even goes so far to claim that Cannabis has “no accepted medical value”, while many studies show that it impedes/prevents the growth of Cancer cells in humans. (http://yfrog.com/h6vtmttj)

According to them, Cocaine is a less dangerous drug than Cannabis. (http://yfrog.com/mmsoridj)

Aside from depriving the proletariat from the benefits of Cannabis, the laws currently in place promote organized crime + the black market, much like the Prohibition of Alcohol in the 1920s (http://yfrog.com/gz6nzktj)

This plant’s illegality has resulted in a huge increase in the incarceration rate due to the influx of innocent weedsmokers being put behind bars. (http://yfrog.com/oc5xqsvj)

Of course, the private prison industry isn’t the only entity profiting off the Prohibition of Pot. Many pharmaceutical companies would be left without customers if citizens were allowed to cultivate their own cannabis plants. (http://yfrog.com/od5noigj)

For the aforementioned reasons and more, #Anonymous calls for the cooperation of the American Occupation in the fight for legalization legislation. In solidarity with the overall interests of 99%, we ask that each chapter of #Occupy highlight the Marijuana Issue on the day of April 20th, 2012.

Together, we will give them a 4/20 they will never forget!

WE ARE ANONYMOUS.
WE ARE LEGION for legalization!
WE DO NOT FORGIVE the crimes of the War on Drugs.
WE DO NOT FORGET our brothers + sisters locked up because of it.
EXPECT US.
