Danny Brown Owns a PSVita and Plays P4G

I love my PS Vita. I also really enjoy the music of Danny Brown. So when Reddit user sambills shared this tweet from Danny Brown I thought I should share it: I only just started playing Persona 4 yesterday but I definitely plan on spending more time with it. I feel like I’m in good company.

OnLive games will stream to Ouya at launch

Supporters wondering exactly what they’ll be able to play when the open, Android-based Ouya console is released can wonder a little less today, as the indie-friendly console maker announced that OnLive’s library of hundreds of streamable games would be available at launch.

The move should somewhat allay concerns that Ouya’s TEGRA 3-based chipset won’t be able to compete with its more powerful console competition, since games running on OnLive’s servers can be as resource intensive as they need to be. Still, you’ll need a better-than-decent broadband connection to stream those games in a playable form, and even then you might notice some controller latency and video issues, if our previous OnLive tests are anything to go on.

What makes this move especially interesting is that OnLive currently sells its own HDTV MicroConsole and controller for $99, the same price as the multifunctional Ouya. It’s enough to make you wonder why OnLive has to charge so much for what is essentially a modem with an HDMI output (though, to be fair, OnLive does frequently offer free MicroConsole units as a perk with various game purchases).

Required Reading: War-torn Developers Creating Games from the Front Lines

Gamasutra has a fascinating article on how developers in war-torn regions cope with developing games in the midst of chaos and bloodshed created by violence. Some, like Radwan Kasmiya from Syria, have fled to other countries but still find the wars they ran away from having a long arm and a strong influence on the ability to practice their craft.

“I don’t think it’s safe,” he tells Gamasutra. “Because I’m still trying to go back and forth to Syria, and I still have family there. I’m not going to jeopardize anything. … I can’t practice my freedom of making art or releasing my own creations. I always have to consider these other things. We are not free. I am not free.”

Under the one-page Violence in Video Games Labeling Act [PDF link], packaging for all video games except those rated “EC” for Early Childhood would be required to prominently display a message reading “WARNING: Exposure to violent video games has been linked to aggressive behavior.” The proposed label would be required even if the video game in question is not violent.

The total hours spent on Xbox Live have increased 30 percent year over year, Microsoft said, growing to an incredible 84 hours a month average for Xbox Live Gold members (that average stood at 60 hours last June). Most of that growth came from increased use of entertainment apps such as Netflix, Hulu Plus, ESPN and Zune Marketplace on Xbox Live, which Microsoft says saw more than double the usage over the last year. With today’s release of new entertainment apps including Comcast, HBO Go and MLB.tv, that rate of increase seems likely to continue.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 players, angry at the lack of post-launch support, are planning a day-long blackout of the game in hopes that their concerns will be addressed. The plan was revealed in a Youtube video, along with a detailed list of in-game problems that Infinity Ward need to fix.

How fitting, then, that the Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser is the proud new owner of the Brooklyn Heights mansion at 70 Willow Street where Truman Capote once laid his weary head after a long night of socializing with New York City’s who’s who. The house that once belonged to the author of the gritty true crime bestseller In Cold Blood sold for $12.5 million according to city records obtained by The New York Observer. It was also apparently the most expensive real estate purchase in Brooklyn history.

The Connecticut State Senate is considering a bill that would add taxes to digital goods. The “stated purpose of the bill, is “to include digital movies, books, music, ringtones, audio and video works and similar downloadable products as subject to the sales and use tax.” If passed, the bill would take effect July 1, 2012, and would apply to sales occurring on or after that date.

Meth heads burn down a tree older then the Jesus, a crapload of stories about Anonymous and their exploits (lulz), somebody’s selling whale meat and you might be shocked to know who it is, and the Girl-Scouts attract the rage of the right. We talk about the mobile game HoboHunt, see how the PlayStation Vita is doing, talk about more stoner shit and Archer gets a 4th season.
