Re:Fresh 36 - Top Secret Eyes Only

This week on the show: Mitt Romney picks a running mate, we’ll talk about a public school who has a policy to force girls to take pregnancy tests under threat of being kicked out, and beverage companies are helping massive efforts to conserve water…but why? We’ll also talk about what NASA has been up to, we’ll take a look at video of the raid on Kim Dotcom founder of Megaupload, and Demonoid got the axe this week but Anonymous has a plan. Joe and Nate share their thoughts on going to the Under The Influence of Music Tour and we’ll have a nice deep conversation about Neon Genesis Evangelion with our special guest Coop. It’s big one.

Hey! Whats this Crust Punk doing in my Hip Hop?

Hang on. Someone explain this shit to me…what’s with rappers and the punk gear? Lady Gaga did it like 2 years ago, and I am seeing it more and more. I don’t believe for a second that Lil’ Wayne has ever heard Anti-Cimex, DIRT, or Aus-Rotten. I’m not mad, but I just don’t get it. Is it just cause it looks cool? If so, fine, whatever, it does look cool. But I don’t hear punk bands having influence on rap or hip-hop at all (say for Doomtree, maybe Death Grips and a few others). Either musically or lyrically. And that goes double for Lil’ Wayne and Tyga.I could put, literally, thousands of words to the page about how punk bands like those on Wayne’s vest run totally counter to the ideas YMCMB presents through their music and lifestyle, but that’s for another time. I just want to know…what gives?

A few of the hosts for Re:Fresh went and saw Doomtree perform in Ann Arbor, MI. The show was super energetic and fun. They put on a hell of a show despite Dessa being out sick. Crowd was also awesome. Lots of people joining in, knew the words. Real fans. I wish every show was this good!
