Bill Maher Is Right About The Occupy Movement.

Hey. Occupiers. Pay attention before you loose all your momentum. I know there’s a lot of apprehension about putting candidates in office, but it’s clear that even the politicians who claim to be down with Occupy are still just politicians and are only as loyal as long as an idea, position or movement stays popular. Fair weather fans, so to speak. As Bill said “we need some intractable far left folks who will peruse an agenda to bring the country back to the left. Just in terms of perception the left is getting killed these days because they don’t have the propaganda juggernaut that the right has (Fox News, talk radio, newspapers, etc etc). We can’t wait for things to reflect our views: culture, politicians, media. The only logical answer is to be active in these areas. It’s time to go legit. Raise some money, start canvasing, elect good people. Parks ain’t cuttin’ it.

Listen to May Day Radio

Happy May Day! Hope you’re busy not working and hopefully you’re taking the day to exercise your first amendment rights, speak out and tell your story. Whatever it is you’re doing make sure to take some time and check out May Day Radio. What is May Day Radio? Here’s how the organizers describe the project:

In the spirit of this extraordinary convergence of groups that will gather on May 1, 2012 to “creating the world we want to see,” May Day radio is an imaginative way to claim space that should be ours but isn’t.

May Day Radio is a community radio station experiment that will broadcast the movement live on May Day - offering a central source for information and inspiration to those marching in the streets and those listening in support from their desks/trucks/schools/homes.

Re:Fresh is excited to be working with May Day Radio to provide information and entertainment to the 99%. May Day Radio will feature songs hand picked by the Re:Fresh crew and even snippets of our Occupy May Day General Strike Special. You’ll also hear stories, interviews, music and live updates from Occupy Wall Street’s May Day General Assembly.

Want to hear the entire Occupy May Day General Strike Special show? No worries, we’ll be posting a MP3 of the show, here, at our website this afternoon and we’ll have a special webcast tonight at 7pm on GhettoRadio. Help support and celebrate the 99% with May Day Radio and Re:Fresh.

#OpCannabis

Hello Citizens of the World! We are Anonymous.

Many of you know that April 20th is a day marked by the consumption of Marijuana by people of all walks of life, all over the globe. What you may not know is the facts when it comes to Cannabis use.

It is common knowledge that this substance is significantly less harmful than alcohol or nicotine, two drugs widely deemed acceptable by society. (http://yfrog.com/nvjrgg)

Regardless of this, the U.S. Government even goes so far to claim that Cannabis has “no accepted medical value”, while many studies show that it impedes/prevents the growth of Cancer cells in humans. (http://yfrog.com/h6vtmttj)

According to them, Cocaine is a less dangerous drug than Cannabis. (http://yfrog.com/mmsoridj)

Aside from depriving the proletariat from the benefits of Cannabis, the laws currently in place promote organized crime + the black market, much like the Prohibition of Alcohol in the 1920s (http://yfrog.com/gz6nzktj)

This plant’s illegality has resulted in a huge increase in the incarceration rate due to the influx of innocent weedsmokers being put behind bars. (http://yfrog.com/oc5xqsvj)

Of course, the private prison industry isn’t the only entity profiting off the Prohibition of Pot. Many pharmaceutical companies would be left without customers if citizens were allowed to cultivate their own cannabis plants. (http://yfrog.com/od5noigj)

For the aforementioned reasons and more, #Anonymous calls for the cooperation of the American Occupation in the fight for legalization legislation. In solidarity with the overall interests of 99%, we ask that each chapter of #Occupy highlight the Marijuana Issue on the day of April 20th, 2012.

Together, we will give them a 4/20 they will never forget!

WE ARE ANONYMOUS.
WE ARE LEGION for legalization!
WE DO NOT FORGIVE the crimes of the War on Drugs.
WE DO NOT FORGET our brothers + sisters locked up because of it.
EXPECT US.

Why We Need Free Media

Free and independent journalism is under attack. From violent police suppression to corporate media censorship, the need to create and defend movement-based journalism has never been greater - especially as we prepare for May Day and beyond — see below for a list of Occupy media.

Last weekend, Minneapolis police charged a peaceful march, beating protesters and arresting a dozen people. As described by Occupy Minneapolis:

Videos show officers pulling several people off public sidewalks, slamming one violently into the street and deliberately censoring the mainstream and independent press. […] We had hoped to reestablish an occupation to bring attention to social and economic inequality, corporate greed, and the foreclosure crisis, but instead were met with a crackdown by the Minneapolis Police Department.

Mr. Wilder builds communications systems based around Freedom Towers, DIY kits that fit in a suitcase containing everything one would need to set up an ad hoc peer to peer network. The instructions are simple: “Plug it in. Press the big green button.” It creates a local network that stays up no matter what happens to the wider global Internet. All of this is mostly funded through private donations from family, friends, and fellow revolutionaries. Mr. Wilder estimates that the equipment required to assemble a Freedom Tower would have cost over $10,000 as recent as five years ago. Today: $2,000. And it’s completely grid-independent. That means solar powered batteries, a DC power system, a server, a router and a suite of powerful software, all contained in a suitcase.

Unlike the tea party, the Occupy movement hasn’t involved itself much in elections. But that hasn’t stopped a slew of progressives and political outsiders from capitalizing on the movement’s energy. Here’s a rundown of 10 electable House and Senate hopefuls who, one way or another, have made Occupy part of their campaigns
